MedSym Solutions Physician Successfully Attests to Meaningful Use

MedSym Solutions announces that Mitchel L. Galishoff, M.D., a Board Certified Internal Medicine physician in Valley, AL, was the first MedSym Solutions customer to use MedSymEHR version 2.1 to successfully complete the Attestation process in demonstrating Meaningful Use of an electronic health record with an ONC-ATCB certified complete EHR.

“MedSymEHR product specialists provided the tools that made it easy for me to prepare for attestation,” Dr. Galishoff said. “The team at MedSym coached me through the process necessary to document and report 90 consecutive days of patient treatment and gather background information to meet the specified Meaningful Use measurement requirements. They also assisted me with the attestation process on the CMS website.”

To receive federal incentive funding, Medicare- and Medicaid-eligible professionals, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals have to demonstrate “Meaningful Use” through the CMS web-based Registration and Attestation System. According to the CMS definition of Meaningful Use, providers need to show they are using certified EHR technology in ways that can be measured significantly in quality and in quantity. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 specify three main components of Meaningful Use:

  • The use of a certified EHR in a meaningful manner, such as e-prescribing
  • The use of certified EHR technology for electronic exchange of health information to improve quality of health care
  • The use of certified EHR technology to submit clinical quality and other measures

Qualifying physicians that successfully attest may receive up to $44,000 in total CMS stimulus funds for use of certified electronic medical records technologies.

In order to assist providers in demonstrating that they have successfully used MedSymEHR version 2.1 in a meaningful way, a new set of reporting tools were introduced at the beginning of the year. The MedSym Meaningful Use reporting functionality makes it easy for physicians to see if they are on target for meeting the requirements and to run reports when the time comes to attest.

Dr. Galishoff’s practice, Valley Medical and Surgical in Valley, Ala., began using the MedSymEHR in his internal medicine practice in April of 2003. His practice started with the practice management module and then migrated to the full EHR with clinical documentation tools and clinical messaging. Dr. Galishoff graduated from the State University of New York Health Science Centers in Brooklyn. He has been practicing internal medicine for over 20 years.

“Dr. Galishoff has helped MedSym Solutions achieve another milestone in demonstrating how easy it is to use our software system in attesting to Meaningful Use of Certified EHR,” said Brian Driskill, CEO of MedSym Solutions. “We made a commitment to our customers to enhance our already dynamic EHR solution in ways that would allow our customers efficiency in recording and reporting on the quality measures needed to qualify for the available government incentives.”
